Garden Selfies And More
Who doesn't love a good selfie in a backdrop of your favorite garden spaces?
The Hexagon project
A fun landscaping project that gave dressed up our Norway maple (Acer platanoides) and gave our front yard some curb appeal.
Sun Calculations
We were looking to get a better idea of how much sun reaches the different parts of our garden. So this project entailed taking some data points... every hour, on the hour, noting whether the spot was getting full sun, partial sun, or shade.
Once we had that data collected, we put it into Excel and crunched the numbers. Observations of full sun got a 1, partial sun got a 0.5, and shade received 0. We took the summation and got an estimate of the sun the location got. We also know when each location gets the most sun... morning, afternoon and evening.
To take it a step further, I wanted a map of these locations. Time to apply my GIS skills! I used ArcGIS Pro to overlay the garden spaces on top of imagery. The resulting map is really helpful!
